slip·shod
/ˈslipˌSHäd/
adjective
(typically of a person or method of work) characterized by a lack of care, thought, or organization.
I’m Tayler Miller, and Slipshod Leather started in 2022 as a simple way to slow down. As a software engineer by trade, most of my day is spent building things that live entirely in the digital world: fast, precise, and fleeting. Leathercraft became the opposite of that. It is tactile, imperfect, and rooted in patience. What began as a quiet hobby in the evenings turned into a passion for creating pieces that feel personal and are meant to last a lifetime.
I chose the name Slipshod Leather because it is a bit of a joke and a reminder all in one. “Slipshod” literally means careless or sloppy, which is the complete opposite of what I aim for in my work. Every piece I make is carefully cut, stitched, and finished by hand, using full-grain leather and traditional techniques. I loved the irony of the name because it captures the idea that perfection is not the goal, character is. A good product should tell a story through the marks, the wear, and the natural patina it develops over time.
My goal with Slipshod Leather is to make heirloom-quality goods that outlast the trends and carry a bit of my personality with them. All products, custom or not, are crafted to age beautifully and grow more meaningful through the years, just like the craft itself has for me.
